This semester will have two main themes: reformulating the spellout algorithm to integrate movement, separate syntax from spellout, and tighten the condition on complex left branches (traditionally known as specifiers but are ‘complex heads’ in the current approach).
The second theme will be a minute decomposition of French irregular verbs, their suppletion and allomorphy (with a possible extention to Italian). The goal is not only to give a full detailed lexical entry for every morpheme found in verbs, but also to link that back to the behavior of verbs in syntax, such as verb movement. In a second phase, we will zoom in into participles, how they arise, what morphological and semantic distinctions they make, etc.
